This is the Coptic Book of Hours, a prayer book that contains seven canonical prayers, each with its own theme, preserved and practiced by the faithful of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Egypt for centuries. The core of each prayer is comprised of the Psalms, as David the Prophet wrote, "Seven times a day do I praise You because of Your righteous judgments" (Psalm 119164).
The Agpeya is read throughout the day and in many situations. The hours of the day start from sunrise and end at sunset. The morning prayer (Prime), which corresponds to 6 a.m., is said upon waking up in the morning or after the Midnight praise the previous night. The Terce (9 a.m.) and Sext (noon) hours are prayed before each liturgy during the Offering of Incense. The None (3 p.m.) hour is also read during fasting days. Vespers (sunset) and Compline (9 p.m.) are read in the early evening and before bedtime, respectively. and are both read before the Liturgy during the Lent and the fast of Nineveh. The Midnight hour is read just before the Midnight Praise. The Veil hour is reserved for priests, monks and bishops.

This the prayer book for the Coptic Orthodox church. My paper bound copy is starting to fall apart and I needed a replacement so why not the kindle? I found this translation of the Agpeya to be consistent with what I have used over the years and it is excellent overall. I am a native American that joined the Coptic church several years ago thus my English is excellent and I have watched the Coptic community slowly translate their religious material into English, it is quite a chore and I have seen the translation improve over time.Product details

I always wanted this so I can follow along at church or pray on my own. I'm glad I bought it!
I pray from the Agpeya every morning. The psalms lift my heart. The words of the book come back throughout the day; specially in difficult situations
This is the Book of Hours (Horologion/Divine Office) developed by the historical and apostolic Christian church of Egypt. I give 5 stars not only for the quality of the translation, it's affordable price, and presentation, but also for the easy access to all the fundamental parts of it. It is simply a great addition to the library of those interested in the ancient Christian way of prayer.
Can't argue the price. For any Coptic Orthodox Egyptian... I highly recommend buying this for eReader or or Nook or even any iPhone or Android or Windows app you have.

This is a beautiful little book. It appears to be an excellent translation. It is well formatted, complete, and easy to navigate. It even has a beautiful illustration at the start of each hour.
This is a great book. I am Orthodox and work the graveyard shift and have time for prayer amid caregiving duties. This book has prayers for each of the "hours" with Psalms, Epistle and Gospel reading. Lovely words. Good navigation - if there are lots of Psalms, probably a few for each day, there is a tag which says "skip to gospel reading" and pressing it takes you there ... of course you could just page turn. There are not that many Orthodox prayer book out there for , but this is a good one and cheap, too.
Too little is known in the West about Coptic Christianity. The Agpeya is the perfect introduction to Coptic prayer, which is based on traditions reaching back to the beginnings of monasticism in the Egyptian desert. Anyone looking for a book of daily prayer that is ancient in origin, rich in content, but easy to use, the Agpeya is ideal.
